Newcastle United Women’s Football Club
I’ve now covered several games for NUWFC (Newcastle United Women’s Football Club) and having enjoyed the games and covering them I have spoken at length with various people involved with the club who have many ideas to take the club forward in the future and are hoping they can get some more help and people/businesses on board.
NUWFC is a self-funded club with NO support from Newcastle United. NUWFC have to look for there own sponsorship, Players are always on the lookout for sponsors and look into and organize there own events to raise money for the club, this money then covers things like strips, matches, referees, match catering, travel (buses to away games), the list is endless.
I have really enjoyed helping with things photography wise where I can and will always try and help the club on “Twitter” as there is a lot of following and great people/great businesses who look at helping out
Players feel that the club is heading in the right direction, Jessica Foster (Midfielder, NUWFC) comments “I have always wanted to take my football to the highest level possible and I felt that joining NUWFC was the right path to take to achieve this goal.” Jessica also comments about the current team “The current team in which we have at NUWFC is the best team I’ve ever played in. The commitment of all the players is outstanding, which makes it all the more better for when it comes to training to be able to practice as a team on a weekly basis helps us to become better to be able to perform better on the pitch! I can see NUWFC going very far in the future.”
Kayleigh Appleton plays for NUWFC reserves and is only 17, she sees a very bright future for Newcastle United Women and has high hopes for her own career
“I love everything about NUWFC. All the ladies are lovely to get along with, we’re like a family and we have each others back on and off the pitch. My relationships with the coaches, committee and everyone involved with Newcastle is very good and I wouldn’t want to change that.”
“I believe NUWFC can become very successful in the near future. I hope to see the first team get promoted and the status of the club get better and better. In long term, I believe and hope that Newcastle make it into the Super League and continue to progress and get better; which may increase the interest in the club.”
NUWFC chairman Phil Eadon explains a little into the running of Newcastle United Women’s Football Club “It takes around 30-40 hours per week; Anne (Phil’s wife) spends at least 20 hours working on NUWFC a week. I myself probably do the same. That doesn’t include time spent by coaches and managers as well as the other committee members.”
Phil also explains his plans for NUWFC at present and looking to the future “To provide a safe and enjoyable club for ladies to train and play football at the highest possible level in the English Football leagues. Our immediate plan is to re build a good team both on and off the pitch (being achieved) and winning promotion back into the FA Women’s Premier League (North). Our mid term plan is to push on for promotion into the FA Women’s Premier National League. Ultimately to be able within 5 years to compete with the likes of Arsenal and Everton in the FAWSL but on a sustainable financial basis which benefits our local players and not just the England super stars.”
Could you spare anything to help a club on the up? NUWFC are currently top of the league they are in and are looking to gain promotion at the end of the season. They are also looking for any help, be it by individuals or by businesses then everything helps
