Back pages are like buses…..

You wait for one then two come along at once…

I guess the majority of photographers who set out in the world of sports photography has a set of “goal” to achieve when setting out. Having an image on the back page of a daily national newspaper will be on the list of 90% of those photographers i’m sure.

I’m no different and after attending a game last week I wasn’t originally set out to cover (Newcastle United vs Preston North End) my goal became a reality with not one but two large images in the national newspapers the following morning.

I wasn’t originally scheduled to be at the game on Monday night but with results favouring Newcastle during the games on the Saturday prior Newcastle could be promoted back to the Premier League with a win against Preston so I felt it only right to capture the (potential) moment.

I’ve sat through some poor games over previous months where all the action seems to have been in the wrong corner or the opposite end but Monday in terms of photography had to be my perfect game and I got what felt like a seasons worth of celebratory images in 90 minutes. Goals at the right times and celebrations in my corners were perfect and made for some fantastic images.

Matt Richie celebrating has to be one of my best images to date and captured the season and game perfectly, he even looked straight at me when wheeling away in celebration.

It was even nicer seeing the images used the following day in the nationals.

As well as the images in print since my last blog update here are some of the images used online by various media outlets.
